Accessibility Statement
Mizzen+Main is committed to making mizzenandmain.com usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is part of how we design and build the site, considered from the start of every feature rather than added on afterwards.
Our standard
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA as our benchmark. These guidelines describe how to make web content work well for people with a wide range of disabilities, and they shape our design, our code and our reviews. Our approach is also informed by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
How we work on accessibility
- Accessibility is considered when features are designed, and checked again before changes go live.
- Automated accessibility checks run whenever we change the site’s code, and a change that fails them does not reach the site.
- Automated audits also run against the live site: our own tooling reviews it daily, and an external accessibility platform audits it every week.
- We release improvements nearly every day, and accessibility fixes are part of that regular flow of work.
- External accessibility specialists periodically audit the site by hand, with real people navigating it using screen readers and other assistive technology, and their findings feed directly into our work.
- Barriers we find, or that you report to us, are tracked and prioritized alongside everything else we build.
Always improving
Accessibility is ongoing work, not a box we check once. The site changes nearly every day, assistive technologies keep evolving, and we keep reviewing and improving. If any part of the site does not work as well as it should with your browser or assistive technology, we want to hear about it. The contact options below reach the team that can fix it.
Some features of the site, such as live chat, product reviews, cookie preferences and gift-card tools, are provided by third-party companies. We choose partners with accessibility in mind and report issues to them when we find them, though their code is not ours to change.
Accessibility tools on this site
An accessibility widget is available on every page from the person icon in the bottom-right corner. It lets you adjust text size, spacing and font; change color contrast and color schemes; stop animations; highlight links and headings; mute sound; and change the cursor. It also offers preset profiles for screen-reader users, keyboard navigation, low vision, epilepsy, ADHD and cognitive disability.
These adjustments are offered in addition to the accessibility we build into the site itself, not instead of it.
Compatibility
The site is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and is built with standard HTML and WAI-ARIA, the technologies that screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver and TalkBack rely on. Browsers and assistive technologies vary widely, so your experience may differ between combinations; if something is not working well with yours, please tell us.
Feedback
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of mizzenandmain.com. If you run into a barrier, please tell us. It is the fastest way for us to find and fix it, and telling us the page you were on and what went wrong helps most.
